Wake Up!

10 Jan

Have you ever made plans with a friend on a Saturday morning? 10am rolls around and you’re up getting ready for the day, but you have yet to hear from your friend. So, you send a text…no answer. You wait 20 minutes and send another one, and still no answer. So you tweet them, nothing. Then finally, you call and they still sleep through all of that! And there’s nothing you can do to wake them up. So you just wait…

I feel like the friend trying to get a hold of the sleeping beauty. I find myself in the midst of a generation that is so apathetic (for those teenagers out there, to be apathetic means showing or feeling no interest, enthusiasm, or concern) and I so desperately want to wake them up! I honestly believe this generation has the ability to change the world! But I also believe this generation has the ability to see fewer and fewer Christians as a result of the plague of apathy. My heart breaks seeing the apathy, seeing the lack of FULL devotion. Seeing how one day we can put on the act at church, and the next day abuse people with our words, swear like it’s not a big deal, “live young, wild and free,” or walk all over someone. When did becoming a follower of Christ mean that we look like the rest of the world? When did we forget that we represent Christ in EVERYTHING we do and say? I sit here with tears filling my eyes, because I’m not sure how to change things…I don’t know how, but I know that things do need to change. And I know I desperately want to be a part of changing it.

I know we’re human. I know we’re flawed. I know because I have too many to count. But I want my life to radiate who Christ is in me. And I know I don’t always do a good job of it. I know I’m not always the best at it. And when I’m not, it hurts my heart. It drives me to my knees in humility and I beg for forgiveness. We have to start living the way we beileve. Why would anyone want to be a follower of Christ if we live our lives the way the rest of the world does? If there’s nothing different, what’s the point? If I get to swear at you or get drunk with you, there is no difference between my Savior (who suposedly “transformed my life”) and the sinful world we live in. And that conveys a message that we really don’t even need a Savior…What are we doing anymore? We CAN change the world. I wanna be a part of that! But first, we have to let Him change us. From the way we think, to the way we speak, even now a days to the things we tweet. He wants it all! And if I get to be a small part in changing the world for Him, then He can have it all! What about you?

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:18-19

“It’s your life. Whatcha gonna do? The world is watching you. Everyday the choices you make, say what you are and Who your heart beats for.”

Do something,

Amanda
